A family lodge, a local team, thirty years in.
The lodge
Langass Lodge was built in the 1880s as a Victorian shooting lodge on the edge of Loch Eport, looking across to Ben Eaval. It sits in its own extensive grounds, with moorland and forest paths running from the front door and a Neolithic stone circle, one of the finest in the Hebrides, just up the hill.
Today it's a small hotel and restaurant, still very much on the same patch of loch, and still run as a family concern.
Meet Niall & Amanda
Niall Leveson Gower grew up on North Uist. He knows every inch of the loch and still dives most of the scallops served in the restaurant himself, weather permitting. Amanda runs the front of house and, when the tide is right, heads out by kayak to gather mussels and cockles from the shore.
They took on Langass Lodge in 1995. Thirty years later, they're still here, with a team of islanders around them and a lot of guests who now feel like friends. It's the kind of place where the hosts still know most of the guests by name.

The property
The main lodge, dining room, bar and conservatory sit at the heart of the property, with our hillside guest rooms tucked into the slope behind. Grounds, moorland tracks and the path down to the loch open out in every direction from the door.
The team
Mike MacDonald
Mike is a North Uist native, and it shows in every plate he sends out. Our set menu is built around the island's best, fresh seafood, game and produce straight from the estate, all prepared in house from scratch. Every dish is a taste of North Uist itself, and it's what keeps our guests coming back year after year. Mike also loves to surprise diners now and then, so keep an eye on the special sheets too.
View our menus →Debbie
Debbie has been with Langass Lodge for five years and now oversees the day-to-day running of the lodge, making sure every stay is looked after with care from arrival to departure. Her years on North Uist have also made her a trusted source of local knowledge, so if you're after a recommendation, whether it's a beach worth the walk or a hill with a view worth the climb, she's happy to point you in the right direction. Friendly, attentive and always ready to help, Debbie brings warmth and professionalism to every part of the guest experience.
