"Stopped here for a coffee and cake on a wet and windy morning on the way to the Lochmaddy Ferry (cycling). Friendly staff and good coffee. Followed it up with a walk down to the stone circle and lock where we watched an otter fishing in the bay."

"My family and I had the most wonderful dinner here last week. We are not always easy to cater for as some only eat fish, other vegetarians and also a gluten free vegetarian. Food was exquisite, service and staff amazing. Would highly recommended to anyone."

"What an amazing location tucked away in North Uist with a 5000 year old stone circle a short walking distance away. A lovely hotel, friendly staff and homemade delicious food all in a surrounding of tranquility and stunning Hebridean scenery."

Welcome

A quiet stretch of loch, and everything the island has to offer.

Built as a shooting lodge in the 1880s and set in its own extensive grounds, Langass Lodge sits between moorland, forest paths and the shore of Loch Eport, with Ben Eaval rising behind and a Neolithic stone circle just up the hill. Come to eat, to sleep, or to disappear into North Uist for a few days.

Meet the owners

Thirty years on the same stretch of loch.

Niall and Amanda have run Langass Lodge since 1995. Niall grew up on North Uist and still dives most of the scallops served in the restaurant himself. Amanda gathers mussels and cockles from the shore by kayak. Between the two of them, and a team of islanders who've been with the lodge for years, they've built the kind of place people come back to for decades.

The Restaurant

A set menu built around what's caught within a mile.

Head Chef Mike MacDonald is a North Uist native, and it shows in every dish he sends out. The set menu is built around the island's best seafood, game and produce, all prepared in house from scratch, from scallops dived by Niall to venison from the estate, with the odd surprise turning up on the specials sheet too. Dinner is served in both the Restaurant and the Bar on exactly the same menu, with a relaxed lunch and weekend brunch in the Bar too.

  • Local seafood, game & produce
  • Restaurant & Bar dining, same menu in both
  • Non-residents warmly welcome
Accommodation

Warm rooms, big views, real quiet.

  • Loch, moorland & garden views
  • Dogs welcome throughout public rooms
  • Breakfast made from local produce
